This painting is inspired by the notion that knowledge can enable a trans-formative understanding and it acts like a gateway to an entirely different world. So here the child reaches through a gateway
towards the sun, a symbol of knowledge. It is about our ability to make our future. Aaron originally conceived the idea of looking out onto the hills, thinking of the different paths that lead people out into the wider world from the village. The sculpture helped to imagine other portals and possibilities in the landscape and also to get a sense of perspective of the scene.
