Rather than depicting the dramatic instant of his fall, Icarus presents a body suspended between ascent and surrender. The figure drifts through an impossible landscape where mountains dissolve into clouds and geometry quietly interrupts nature. Here, the myth is no longer a warning against ambition but a meditation on vulnerability, transformation and the fragile distance between freedom and collapse. Pinedo invites us to inhabit the moment after certainty has disappeared, where falling itself becomes a form of flight.
Juan Manuel Fernández Pinedo imagines mythology not as a distant past but as a living condition of the human body. His monumental figures drift through landscapes where memory, desire and nature become inseparable. Gods and heroes cease to be historical characters and instead emerge as emotional states, inhabiting terrains suspended between dream, archaeology and invention.
ARTWORK & PRESENTATION
Juan Manuel Fernández Pinedo’s paintings are conceived as sculptural objects as much as pictorial compositions. Through a distinctive process of layered paint application and textured relief, the artist constructs richly tactile surfaces that extend beyond the picture plane, giving each work a unique physical presence.
As an integral part of the artistic process, these textured surfaces cannot be compressed or rolled. Consequently, all works must be transported, stored, and installed as stretched canvases to preserve their sculptural integrity.
For selected works, collectors have the opportunity to acquire an exclusive LEGO® frame, individually conceived by the artist as an extension of the painting itself. Designed specifically for each composition and assembled and installed by certified LEGO builders, the frame transcends its traditional function, becoming an integral element of the artwork and completing the artist’s vision.
