The goat, the masculine energy, completes the cycle of sacrifice in the story. It is looked after and fed to good health. But it reaches a day when it has to sacrifice itself for the good of mankind; producing milk or meat, or hide.
“To eat is to die”; consuming so many little things to produce something. The food is very important in all the narratives but with the goat, it is even more crucial. It is the only character in the narrative that eats because when Wangari appears alongside food, she is always providing, harvesting, sacrificing, caring. The feminine energy makes it possible for the masculine character to survive. The masculine energy represents the instincts, but also sacrifice itself.
